THE KULTURE

Kulture @ MUT

MUT may be known for being one of the few campuses located in the township but it’s also known for its famous “Student Burger” commonly known as Igwinya (vetkoek). Our Student Burger comes in different shapes and sizes with a variety of fillings; from sliced polony, cheese slices, fried chips and a Russian. A new favourite is now Igwinya topped with fried chips and a Russian. This meal is not for those who are watching their waistlines.

MUT has three cafeterias fast food stalls which allows students to socialise with their peers in a relaxed setting. Parts of the cafeterias are used as study lounges while some are for socialising and dining. The daily menu offers a wide range of offerings from light to full meals. Popular meals on the menus include chicken leg quarters with fried chips, fish and chips, pasta and a variety of pies. They also offer grainy pap or widely known as Uphuthu or rice with a wide selection of curries from beef, chicken or mutton.

Our cafeterias also strives to ensure that if you’re living in one of on-campus residences, you can get most of the basic conveniences like toiletries thus minimising the trip to go to town or KwaMnyandu Mall.

Apart from the cafeterias, along Mangosuthu Highway, there are trading stalls which sell a number of things – it is these stalls which are mostly popular with students.

Turn your gwinya into a creative meal by serving it sweet or savoury. Some left over mince makes can make the perfect savoury stuffing for an afternoon meal. Or grab some grated cheese otherwise spread strawberry jam as a sweet treat.
